In light of recent disasters, an overwhelming initial EMS response is mandatory in order to mitigate tragic loss of life and human suffering. In order to be successful and efficient, such a response requires planning, equipment and trained personnel.
It is the goal of The Metro Region EMS System to coordinate and plan for regional EMS responses to comply within State and Federal guidelines, structure, and initiatives in cooperation and collaboration state, county, and local emergency management, public safety, public health and healthcare provider agencies.
It is the goal of The Metro Region EMS System to ensure The Metro Region EMS System providers are actively involved and informed in the development and maintenance of the regional EMS incident response plan at all levels within the region.
Metro Region EMS System Committees
The EMS Committee is a committee of the Metro EMS Region System appointed by the MESB (Metropolitan Emergency Services Board), and consists of thirteen representatives comprised of community health representatives, physicians, communication representatives and ambulance service providers.
The Metro Region EMS System Committee meets on a quarterly basis at the Metropolitan Emergency Services Board offices in St. Paul, Minnesota. In addition to making the recommendations stated in their mission, the Committee also makes budget recommendations and assists with the preparation and management of the Metro Region EMS System Program's grant contract.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Metro Region EMS System Committee is to provide a forum where the public, private and non-profit sectors can meet to create long-term visions for EMS in the metropolitan area and develop recommendations for:
improving the EMS system through regional coordination, enhancing service delivery based on provider input,
positioning the EMS system to meet the changing needs of EMS users in the metropolitan area,
preparing EMS users and providers within the metropolitan area for emerging changes in health care delivery, and supporting EMS education and research with region-wide benefits.
The Metro Region EMS System Communications Advisory Committee
The Metro Region EMS System Communications Advisory Committee is a standing committee of the EMS Committee. The charge of this committee is to discuss and develop recommendations regarding EMS communications issues affecting EMS providers throughout the Metro Region.
Membership of this committee will consist of no more than one representative of each ambulance service in the seven-county Metro Region in addition to one representative from the East Metro MRCC and one representative from the West Metro MRCC. Agency representatives should specialize in EMS communications within their respective agencies.
The Metro Region EMS System Provider Advisory Committee
The Metro Region EMS System Provider Advisory Committee is a standing advisory committee to the EMS Committee. The EMS System Provider Advisory Committee consists of EMS representatives from agencies throughout the seven county Metro area. Each ambulance service, law enforcement and fire agency, EMS training institution and public safety answering point (PSAP) is eligible to have one representative on this committee. Letters are sent out to all eligible agencies once a year announcing open appointments to this committee.
The EMS System Provider Advisory Committee provides an opportunity for discussion of issues and concerns among EMS providers, makes recommendations to the EMS Committee regarding objectives and projects for the EMS Program, and assists with the implementation of Metro EMS Program's projects.
